Before you make your grocery shopping list - make a plan.

Think about what ingredients you already have? Particularly, what needs to be used. Create meals around these items.

Enjoy using up the things in your pantry, refrigerator and freezer!

With those items in mind, what meals can be made? Now, make a shopping list.

If it is too overwhelming to think about a whole week, just plan one soup. Make enough to eat for dinner, a couple lunches, and some to freeze.

That bag of lentils has been sitting on the pantry shelf for quite awhile. Find a lentil soup recipe online or in a cookbook. Use as many items that you already have and add the ingredients you need to your list.

Making a plan at home, far from savvy grocery store marketing, is smart. Once at the store, keep being smart. When you walk into the produce aisle and - holy guacamole! - the price for those bags of beautiful organic avocados is .33/pound! Will you actually eat a dozen avocados? It’s not a bargain if you don’t have time to make the guacamole and eat it, too.

Then again, guacamole and tortilla chips could be fun and delicious with homemade lentil soup!

What is waiting on your pantry shelves to be made into a delectable dinner?
